Bates Beach Boat - Watercolor Collage

Took a picture of this boat half filled with water on a winter's day. I struggled with the negative space so reverted to collage and it became a fun painting.

Did this from a photo taken on Cortez Island during a field trip with the Camera Club. It's my first portrait in watercolors.

Being surrounded by a group of Arbutus trees is a delightful experience, the color and form are very inviting.

There is an artist preserve on Hornby Island where this painting was inspired. The ocean winds transform the trees.
